How to Customize your Feedburner Headline Animator

// February 16th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Admin Tools, Blogging, Design, For Geeks, Geeks, I recommend, RSS Feeds, Tutorial, Useful, Wordpress, Wordpress Themes, free, web tools, webmaster, wordpress tutorials

A good way to promote your site is by using Feedburner for your RSS Feeds. One of their cooler features is their Headline Animator widget and if your anything like me and you love to design graphics then this can be a fun little project for you to add to your site.
For those of you who are not familiar with Feedburner..First you will have to register at Feedburner and burn your blog.
Once you’ve done that,  log into your account,  select your feed,  click on the “Publicize” tab and look for the Headline Animator service which is listed in the left-hand side bar.
Under “Theme” select “provide your own background” from the drop down list. Required (GIF only).

Create your graphic in Photoshop. I created a .gif that was 243px × 110px pixels and a 468×60px .gif.  (view them below)

Your Headline Animator will be the same size (height and width) as the background image. Play around with different shapes and sizes. Once you’ve uploaded the new graphic, feedburner allows you to drag and drop the animated text where it needs to be on the graphic and the length of the animated text box. You can also choose the text color of your font and the size. You don’t have a lot of control but you can play with it to make it look pretty cool if your creative. If you decide to make one..make sure to post your link here so we can all check out your creation.

If you have any questions or if you get stuck feel free to leave your questions here or check out Feedburner’s FAQ.

The Daily Dose of Imagery – (RSS)

c h r o m a s i a

You can use photo feeds to add dynamic content to your website , or you can just add them to your Google Screensaver.

If you installed Google’s photo screensaver check out Framechannel. This service lets you create a feed from more than 200 channels of photos that include NASA’s photo of the day, travel pictures, images from National Geographic, news and weather. You have to create an account, select your favorite content and copy the URL of your feed. Then add the feed to your Google’s screensaver. The cool thing is that the URL of the feed remains the same even if you add or remove a channel.

For those who don’t want to install Google Screensaver, they also have a list of alternative programs & plug-ins for Windows and Mac.

The Amazing Agregado Lifestream Theme for Wordpress

// September 29th, 2008 // 5 Comments » // Design, Design Resources, Featured, Free Website Templates, I recommend, Wordpress, Wordpress Themes, webdesign

Announcing the Beautiful Agregado Lifestream Theme. This is the best theme I’ve seen so far and I’ve tested out..I’d have to say close to 100 Wordpress themes over the past year. This theme has a lot of really unique features and qualities that I haven’t see in any of the other themes that I think people will really dig. I almost wish I could keep it a secret. haha!

But I can’t.. so here it is…

Download The Agregado Lifestream Theme | View the Demo

Designed by Darren Hoyt and Matt Dawson of Category4, commissioned by the folks at Smashing Magazine. It features a built-in lifestream module and contact form with custom control panel options.

Lifestream gives you the ability to stream your social networking feeds such as Twitter, Flickr and Delicious in your sidebar. You can view my website’s main page for an example of how that works.

Built into the Agregado admin interface you can add your Flickr, Twitter, Delicious, Magnolia, Pownce, Last.fm, Facebook and Goodread usernames for the Lifestream sidebar.
It also gives you room to add up to 4 other rss feeds to the Lifestream.

I’ve added my FriendsFeed RSS feed because that includes my digg, youtube and others that don’t seem to have an RSS address well at least that I could find. Since you can only add an RSS feed address to the Lifestream. Unless I’m missing something.. let me know.
Anyway, the theme has a lot of good stuff. So, download it and test it out yourself. I’m currently using it and I plan on customizing it a bit but it really was perfect out of the box. I must give mad props to the designers. They did an amazing job with this theme.

Speak up and give me some comment love. I swear I get up to a thousand hits a day on this website but I’ll be lucky to get one comment a week. haha! That’s pretty pathetic I know. I must be pretty damn boring. No one wants to talk to me. :(
Show the girl some love will ya? I feel a little desperate here.. begging for comments and all but geez. I love to interact but that’s pretty hard all by myself. Well..actually I take that back…..
