A gallery will display a set of thumbnail images attached to that post or page. If you upload images using the Add an Image icon, they will get attached automatically. If you upload images using the media library, you will need to attach it to a post or page before it will appear in a gallery.

Here is a video tutorial on how to add an image gallery to your blog post:

Click the birds below to download the icon sets and PSD files and don’t forget to Leave a comment on the artists website if you like his work and especially if you plan on using it on your website that’s the least you can do for an artist who’s offering their work free to the public. 16 New FREE Magazine Style Wordpress Themes

// August 7th, 2009 // 9 Comments » // Blogging, Design, Design Resources, For Geeks, Magazine Theme, Wordpress Themes, Wp Themes, webdesign, webmaster

I did a search tonight for some new Magazine styles Wordpress Themes and I found some really nice ones especially the wpjunction.com themes. Good Stuff! Problem with those is I really had to search to find the download files since the main website is currently under construction and isn’t listing the download files on the website just links to the demo sites. It’s possible he plans on removing them so I’d download them now. Better safe then sorry. I’ve seen this happen before where a designer will offer their themes for free and then change their mind and start selling them as premium themes. Anyway, I’ve posted 14 of them in this post. Enjoy and comment! Digg the post!

How to turn off post revision in wordpress and decrease database size.

// August 6th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Blogging, Code, Design, For Geeks, Geeks, Wordpress, Wordpress Themes, wordpress tutorials

How to turn off post revision in wordpress and decrease database size.

delete_remove_turn_off_wordpress_post_revisionRevisions posts feature was introduced in wordpress 2.6 this feature turned on by default in 2.6+ versions. Revision posts create a lot of extra entries into your database and causes of database growing at very high speed.

So if you are worry about the size of your database or you don’t need hundreds or thousands of revisions posts in you database.

Here is the solution.

Open your wp-config.php into a text editor and add following lines into it.

define(’AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL’, 500 ); // seconds
define(’WP_POST_REVISIONS’, false );

This will increase the auto save time from 60 seconds to 500 seconds
and you will not get auto saved posts.

And if you want to delete already created revision posts from your database than go to your hosting control panel and open

PHPMyAdmin and run this SQL-query:

DELETE FROM wp_posts WHERE post_type = “revision”;

If you don’t want to edit your database there is a plugin Revision Control available for you.

Don’t Miss Out on Local SEO Opportunities

Don’t Miss Out on Local SEO Opportunities

Local search engine optimization is a great way to charge up your search rankings. It’s a faster method for making sure you’re on the right track, and if optimized properly you can really take advantage of some targeted traffic that will only help your business in the future.

It doesn’t matter if you’re developing websites for a mom and pop local plumber or a multi-million dollar agency that will have thousands of dynamic pages, the same 13 steps to on-site SEO will need to be applied to each.

How to Write Blog Posts to Increase Search Engine Traffic – Here’s an easy formula to follow:

  • In your blog, write a post with keyword A in your title something catchy, more info on that over here at seomoz or copyblogger
  • Write in-depth and informative content related to keyword A
  • Target keyword A in a link from your post to page2.html
  • When appropriate, link out to other authorities that can offer more information about your keyword topic (Use this tip with caution. While you are trying to give the user more info and get the attention of the other site – thus possibly getting a link back to your site – you should try to strike a balance so that the effectiveness of your post is maximized without excessive links out from your site)
  • Remember to vary the way you link keyword A to page2.html (did you target long-tail keywords? Those are very easy to alter)
  • Repeat this process on each post for all pertinent keywords throughout your site

The nice thing about this formula is that you actually tackle quite a few of the common marketing questions that challenge many business owners.

Wordpress is a very powerful CMS (Content Management System). It has tons of capability and can be extremely powerful. There’s only one thing in the way from all of this power and you as the blog owner – your theme. Twitter from Your Outlook Inbox

// July 11th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Applications, Blogging, Featured, For Geeks, Freeware, Geeks, I recommend, Software, Twitter, Useful, blog, free, web tools

Twitbox

Are you addicted to Twitter, but afraid to use it while you’re at work? Here’s a cure for your addiction! Well, not really a cure… I guess it would be more like throwing fuel on the fire. Now there’s a way for you to post on Twitter directly from your Outlook Inbox for FREE! Not only that but you’ll also be able to read posts from the people you’re following? Sounds great, right?

The app that will let you do all of this for free is called TwInbox. It integrates directly into your Outlook client so that you can both read and post to Twitter… all while looking like you’re sifting through hundreds of emails. The toolbar serves as a quick access point for all of your Twitter needs.

Want to know what all this is capable of? Here’s a list of features:

  • Update your Twitter status directly from Outlook.
  • Receive your friend updates in Outlook.
  • Archive, manage, group and search your tweets the same way you manage your email.
  • Search, track keywords. TwInbox will automatically download ALL tweets matching the keywords you specify, even if you are not following the tweet sender. This feature is perfect for keeping up to date with the Twitter buzz on your name, brand, interests, etc.
  • Group tweets by sender, topic, etc using the Search feature.
  • Upload and post picture files and Outlook email attachments.
  • See new tweets at a glance.
  • Assign custom folder and categories to new messages.
  • Use Outlook’s “Reply” and “ReplyAll” commands to send twitter direct messages and @replies.
  • Automatically sort new tweets into per-sender folders.
  • Shorten URLs with tinyurl.
  • See graphs of your Twitter usage statistics.

Tweets sent to you (@replies and direct) are marked with high importance, so you can see them at a glance.
Honestly, this is the most creative interface I’ve ever seen for managing a Twitter account. When I first saw this I didn’t expect it to do much more than provide a popup box for posting to Twitter. The thing is a full-featured Twitter client right in your Inbox! I could see this being a huge hit in the corporate world… especially for people who are forced to tweet for the company they work for. Pretty much everyone is familiar with Outlook, and this undoubtedly minimizes the learning curve. Not that Twitter is difficult to use, but this makes it feel no different than sending a short email.

I give mad props to the developer(s) for not only creating this, but for also making it free. And, in case you’re wondering, it works with both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007.

Another Great Affiliate that actually pays! $$ WPWebHost

// June 19th, 2009 // No Comments » // Affiliate Networking, Blogging, Cool Websites, Design Resources, Featured, For Geeks, Geeks, Hosting, I recommend, Wordpress, Wordpress Themes, webmaster

Another Great Affiliate that actually pays! WPWebHost.com I just signed up with them as an affiliate and added a banner to the bottom of my posts using the Shantz WordPress Prefix/Suffix Plugin which I also love by the way.

I earned 70.00 bucks with only 2 referrals and in no time at all.  If your like me when you first found out about affiliate marketing you thought “great I can just add links to my website and I’ll make money”. Well it’s really not that easy.

I’m very picky about the affiliates I add to my website. If I don’t believe in their product I’m not gonna bug my visitors with their ads. If it’s something I think my visitors would be interested in then I’ll sign up and add the banner.  Knowing full well that I’ll probably never see a dime… but I tend to have the “hey what the heck can’t hurt” kind of attitude when it comes to most affiliates.

However there have been only a few affiliates that I have made money off of and those few are The WP Remix Theme, Woo Themes and now WPWebHost! The cool thing about WPWebHost is you can create and track your own affiliate links! Which is not something most of the Wordpress theme affiliates allow you to do.

WPWebHost also offers tier linking which basically means you can make money from other affiliates who sign up under you.. and no that is not why I’m promoting them. I’m promoting them because I made money and money is is always fun to share! SIGN UP TODAY!
wpwebhost

Plus their client list is pretty impressive.. well if your familiar with some of the designers who blog that is..

WPWebHost Clients:

Design Shard is now Hosted with WPWebHost and its been a really great experience so far, support is fast at responding to questions about their hosting and about Wordpress, the features of there servers are better than what I was on at Godaddy! I would recommend them with confidence if your thinking of changing hosts.”
