I’m bringing this up because it irritates me personally to no end to see innocent people taken for a ride.. so I just wanted to make sure that everyone who reads my blog knows that Domain Registry of America (DROA) is pulling off their domain name scam under a “nifty” new domain name, “NameJuice.com” (a.k.a. Domain Registry of Canada, droc.ca)

So, if you’ve never heard of the scam known as “Domain name slamming”. Then….…please read on..

The scam is this… DROA sends you what appears to be an invoice for a domain name renewal, making it appear as if they’re your current domain name registrar and that it’s absolutely URGENT that you renew your domain name or risk losing it forever. They also email out “Transfer confirmation” emails to domain name owners and how people don’t question those I have no idea but people continue to fall for them.. in these emails people are asked to confirm their transfer request. It seems everyone would know wether they requested a transfer or not but I guess not.

Anyway, some people are completely clueless when it comes to who their domain name registrar is, and will unwittingly pay the invoice, not realizing they are actually transferring their domain to someone other than their original provider. In many cases this is just the beginning of much bigger problems and MUCH higher renewal fees AND..In most all cases the domain name wasn’t even up for renewal!! AND It’s not cheap!! They charge $75 bucks a year from what I’ve heard which as most of us know is ridiculous to say the least..Sad thing is none of this is illegal! Because somewhere in the letter in small print.. it says “this is not a domain name renewal this is a transfer” and as we all know… most people don’t even know the difference between the two anyway.

Well, DROA.com also knew this and that’s why they’ve continued to get away with this scam for the past 6 years. If you do a Wikipedia lookup on the definition of “Domain name Slamming” it actually mentions DROA.com in the freaking definition!!

My point? Try to warn people. Tell your friends who own domain names to watch out for this company and to ignore those letter in the mail. Write about it on your blog, share this post on your facebook, twitter etc.. you can use social networking to make it harder for them to scam people out of their hard earned money. You might really save someone a lot of heartache if you do. Think how messed up it would be if your company domain name was hijacked by these clowns. Some people depend on their websites to survive.

Domain slamming is a form of scam in which an internet service provider (ISP) or domain name registrar attempts to trick customers of different companies into switching from their existing ISP/registrar to the scamming ISP/registrar, under the pretense that the customer is simply renewing their subscription to their old ISP/registrar.[3]

VeriSignwas sued in 2002 for their actions in sending ambiguous emails informing people, often incorrectly, that their domain was about to expire and inviting them to click on a link to renew it. Renewing the domain resulted in the registration company being transferred to VeriSign from the previous registrar.[4]In 2003, VeriSign was found not to have broken the law but were barred from suggesting that a domain was about to expire or that a transfer was actually a renewal.[5]

Also in 2003, the Domain Registry of America were ordered by the Federal Trade Commission not to make misrepresentations after telling consumers that their domain registrations were expiring, leading many consumers to switch their domain name registrar^.

OMG! It’s been a little while since I’d seen anything about Amy Winehouse so I just assumed she was in rehab or something.

She actually looks kinda healthy for once! This picture might of ruined another celebrities day but for Amy Winehouse.. I’d say it’s a plus. Naked and all.

Not that Amy Winehouse naked is a real pretty sight because it’s not. But considering that I was predicting her early demise just a few months ago, I’d have to say it’s just nice to see her “looking” healthy.

Thanks to Jesus, she FINALLY cut off that NASTY-ASS beehive which looked more like a homeless mans dreadlock then a hip bee-hive and it also appears that she’s put a little new meat on those rickety bones.

She kinda looks like Annie now though! Not Hot! She really is in need of a stylist. I mean if she’s got the cash and we all know she does..you’d think that she’d spend a little extra money on looking the best she can look especially with all her bad press.

Tech Support Hell – Mailing List Lady

This is just a small example of what we deal with working in the exciting world of tech support. This is a message some random lady left on the answer machine at one of my previous tech support jobs. I won’t say where to protect the innocent but I will say in their defense that all promotional emails had an opt-out link at the bottom so it really wasn’t as complicated as this lady made it out to be.

Get a life lady.

Tip #1: Most promotional or Spammy emails have an opt-out link at the bottom of the email if their sent from a legitimate company.
Tip #2: Create a free email account at yahoo.com or gmail.com and use it when signing up for things your not 100% sure of for example promotions or free offers. This will help to cut back on spam in your personal inbox.
Tip #3: Watch what your checking when you sign up for something..if it says “YES, I want to be contacted by select third parties concerning products I might be interested in blah blah”..your signing up for spam. Pay attention.
Tip#4: Never add your email address to a forum or newsgroup or your website. There are programs that search through the net looking for email addresses. If you must add your email address, add it to an image…like so..

Tip#5: Never call your tech support and yell at them..more likely they will only help you less not more. Being rude will get you no where.

Goddamn she just gets worse and worse. I wonder if Amy Winehouse owns a full length mirror? Is she aware of how bad she looks, how nappy her hair is or how dirty she is? She never fails to get that nasty 2 inch wide black eyeliner on so she’s at the very least looking at her ugly mug.

I feel bad for Amy.. but on the other hand I think to myself..if only I had her talents and her money $$$$ there is no way I would throw it all away on drugs and there is no way I would allow myself to look that freaking UGLY!

I guess that confirms it..they are in fact more then just BFFs. I think Lindsey needs to start wearing rainbows scarfs and participating in tons of inappropriate PDA with Sam. We’ve seen her do it with a ton of guys in public so what’s the difference LL? Has your kid ever made you feel old? Yah? Don’t lie. Anyway there’s this game you may of heard of called Guitar hero…well I suck at it and I mean bad. It’s got to be funny as hell watching me just trying to play it. I just can not think that fast or I can think that fast but my fingers will not compute what I’m seeing. So lame. Looks like a fun game too bad I can’t compute.
My son however kicked that games ass. He beat the whole game in two days and we’ve only had it a little over a week. He looks like he’s actually playing the guitar when he’s playing..it’s pretty cute. He’s 11..aww my rock star son. So, I don’t get to be cool gaming mama but that’s ok. I get to be proud gaming mama instead on this one at least. Give me any of the Final Fantasy games or any RPG for that matter and he’s asking me questions so it’s even I guess. He rocks at hand eye and I’m just magical! :X

Kanye West Talks About Arrest at LAX

Here’s the video of Kanye West attacking a paparazzi today, then smashing the man’s camera. Although Kanye, and his assistant, were arrested, Kanye has posted bail and was released. According to one paparazzi, police finally arrested Kanye when the paparazzi was showing police video of the attack, because Kanye ran to attack the man again to get the camera, but police stopped him and cuffed him.

Kanye was loaded down with his favorite bag maker Louis Vuitton. Who doesn’t love LV?

Kanye West had a short message he posted to his blog this morning, regarding his arrest at LAX, that read:

“We back in the lab!!! I’m cool with the paparazzi. This guy wasn’t cool. I gotta work now… I’ll rant later”!

Guy Actually Bought “I Am Rich” App for $999.99 – Oops!

This is a funny little story about a funny little man…who thought he was just pretend shopping online at the very real Apple Ipod App store…

What it actually does?

Once downloaded, it doesn’t do much — a red icon sits on the iPhone home screen like any other application, with the subtext “I Am Rich.” Once activated, it treats the user to a large, glowing gem (pictured below). That’s about it. For a thousand dollars.

Armin Heinrich—the German author of the application—has confirmed that not only one moron, but eight dumbasses actually bought the application. According to him, there are more waiting to get it:

Apple apparently had some problems with I Am Rich. After initially approving it for distribution, the company has since removed it from the store. Heinrich, a German software developer, has yet to hear back from Apple concerning the removal. “I have no idea why they did it and am not aware of any violation of the rules to sell software on the App Store,” Heinrich said in an e-mail with The Times today.

I Am Rich But Apple couldn’t pull it down before curious aristocrats — eight of them — had purchased it. Six people from the United States, one from Germany and one from France dropped a grand for the gem in the first 24 hours it was available, Heinrich said. That’s $5,600 in revenue for Heinrich and $2,400 for Apple, which collects 30% of each sale for “store upkeep.”

The fact is that he’s right. If there are people wanting to buy a piece of useless software for $999, why not let them do it? After all, people buy even more expensive crap that is completely useless, from paintings to collectibles to other commercial software. The market decides if a product is worth its price tag or not. And at least eight people got this, even if one is claiming that it was an accident. Accident or not, the fact is that Heinrich has pocketed $5,600 and Apple received $2,400 in 24 hours.

Did Heinrich get Paid?

Heinrich told LA Times that he had not yet received his $5,600 check from Apple, which has a policy of paying developers at the end of each calendar month. He’s unsure how the app’s removal will affect the payment process.

“I’ve got e-mails from customers telling me that they really love the app,” adding that they had “no trouble spending the money,” he said.

Did Dumbass #1 get Refunded?

Heinrich confirms the validity of the review pictured in the screenshot, and Apple has refunded his and another buyer’s money. “I don’t want to collect money from people who did this by accident and I am glad that Apple returned the money for two orders,” Heinrich said.

The 6 other people who bought this app…were obviously filthy rich anyway so this app is perfect for them.

I think Heinrich is awesome. Anyone who thinks of a random way to make money and then actually succeeds at it gets my vote.

Celebrity Photoshop and body image in my 30′s

Women in our society are constantly trying to live up to a level of beauty that is sold to them through fashion mags, TV and movies..what we all might not realize is how much of that beauty is a computer generated.
Fantasy women that real women could never measure up too.
I think these pictures are an eye opener and goes to show just how incredibly fooled we all are by the media. We’ve been bamboozled! Don’t get me wrong I think we all like to look at beautiful people but it’s also nice to know we’re not so bad after all too..that everyone has their faults and no one is picture perfect.

What’s been hard for me is just getting older.. not being in my twenties anymore…and when I turned 35 whoa I really started to feel old. I want to see the beauty in myself but its not always easy because I do notice those little smile lines and imperfections that come with natural aging..I see them everyday and it does get me depressed.

I’m really grateful for Roy because he’s always telling me “Your so beautiful” which usually makes me feel better but then again deep down inside I’m also always thinking to myself.. he’s just saying that because he loves me.. so he can’t win for losing. Haha!

I think I struggle with the same thing a lot of other women…body image and lack of self esteem. It’s something I want to work on and something I want to get over.

If the media were to ban Photoshop retouches..could you just imagine? Women might actually start to feel better about themselves when we all begin to realize that our favorite stars have the same smile lines that we do..would we admire them ore or less?

I hate Dotster!

I’m working on a website for a customer who happens to be hosted at Dotster. Can you believe I can not get a WordPress installed on his webspace after working there for a freaking year!? Me either. It’s so wack. I’m so frustrated. I know it’s not me I did everything right. Grr!

Anyway’s I ended up installing him on my webhost! Haha! WTF? Uh yeah. I was sick of messing around with their wacked out settings. I got everything installed I’m just waiting for his name servers to propagate. What I’m gonna try and do is export it over to Dotster once it’s created..will that work? Well..that’s the plan.

My Indiana Jones 4 – Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Review

I went to see the new Indiana Jones 4 And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull movie last night at the Cinetopia with some of my friends from Dotster which included Mike, Chris R., Justin, Annie, Jason, Chelsea, Chris M. and me.

Spoiler warning…

Steven Spielberg is again directing, and George Lucas producing..so that basically explains why things were done the way they were done..it was what I might call a mash up of Indiana Jones, E.T and Star Wars.

Huh? You might ask yourself..yeah well so did I.

The CGI in some parts of the movie were not up to par in comparison..like some of the effects were just corny while others were amazing!! Also parts of the storyline didn’t really match up or make sense or were never explained at all.

Lets put it this way.. it was just not at all what I expected of Indiana Jones and I was not alone in my opinion. I mean WTF? What in the hell was up with the aliens? I mean the CGI aliens were amazing and the last scene of the movie was way cool if it was supposed to be a sci-fi movie but this was Indiana Jones not E.T. so the whole alien concept just kinda ruined it for me! However after all my complaining..I thought it was worth watching and I had a blast going to the movies..we were taking shots of Captain Morgans and Root Bear like high school kids in my mini-van in the parking lot before the movie..I have tinted windows. We went to the late late show..it got out at 1am! We had fun. Cate Blanchet looked amazing as usual and played a perfect villain!
