Poken Explained from Poken on Vimeo.
What is a Poken? Well..Watch the video! Basically a poken is a gadget that allows you to transfer social networking data such as and I can only assume since i don’t personally have one but I assume your Myspace, Linkedin, Website, Twitter…etc and of course your email address. This is done when you touch your poken to another poken your data is instantly transferred.
Would you Poken? Will you? I think I would..if it was a little more useful. But even if these did become popular.. it’s going to take some time before they hit the mainstream. I think the concept is a cool one and the poken is pretty damn cute. I like the idea of easily transferring my social networking links and contact info to someone I randomly meet on the street who I might want to chat with again. Instead of getting out my phone to slowly type in their email address..You’d just use your Poken! You touch your poken to their poken and boom you’re done. Everything is transferred in on touch of the poken’s hands? Nice! But once again this takes two. It’s useless unless the other person also has a Poken. Watch the Video!
So, even if I bought one for me and a friend we could only transfer our data to each other once.. so what would be the point after that? I can see our cute Pokens taking a long Poken nap in the bottom of my gadget junk drawer along with all my old USB cords and flash drives for a long time or at least until the next time I found some random geek who also happens to have a napping Poken.. what are the odds? Not very good. So do I carry around my poken desperatly waiting? And then what if I finally find another person who happens to have a poken too but I have no interest in their contact info? Ha!
So.. for now I’ll give it a thumbs up for the basic concept but I think they should of thought of more uses for it while we’re all waiting for them to catch on in the mainstream. I personally don’t see that happening because of the time frame that takes and the uselessness of the gadget in the meantime.
