Bernie Mac – Photo Gallery Dedication
“Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,” confirmed by his publicist, Danica Smith.
The star of the critically acclaimed “The Bernie Mac Show” was hospitalized several days ago for pneumonia.
The comedian had suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but the condition went into remission in 2005.
His publicist said Mac’s pneumonia wasn’t related to sarcoidosis.
On Friday, a spokeswoman for Bernie Mac whose real name is, Bernard McCullough, said that he had been responding well to treatment for pneumonia and denied earlier rumors that he had died.
Even though he’s refused to change his image for Hollywood, Bernie Mac made his mark on Tinseltown.
He started his career in stand-up and was a featured comedian in The Original Kings of Comedy. He went on to produce and star in an award-winning self-titled TV series The Bernie Mac Show and played roles in several feature films, such as Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13, Charlie’s Angels 2, Pride and Mr. 3000—his first starring role. Mac also wrote several books, including Maybe You Never Cry Again.
